The Parliamentary Secretary for the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development, Mr Tony Lupton MP, officially opened the China Australia Governance Program Dialogue at the Melbourne Marriott Hotel.

Mr Lupton noted the significance of the dialogue in ''bringing together Australian and Chinese bankers and regulators to foster relationships and share our respective experiences in banking regulation and governance''.
A delegation of 18 Chinese nationals from regulatory agencies and state-owned and private banks attended the two-and-a-half-day event to discuss key issues with Australian banking regulators and practioners, including banking corporate governance issues and risk mangement strategies.
Ken Waller, Director of the Melbourne APEC Finance Centre said the dialogue provided a unique opportunity to share points of view and compare experiences. ''The dialogue provided a snapshot for participants from Australia and the region on where China is in relation to regulating its banking activities'’.
Following the dialogue, the delegation led by Dr Li Kouqing of the Asia-Pacific Finance and Development Centre went on a Site Visits program that included meetings with ANZ, NAB, Standard & Poor's, Federal Treasury, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, CBA, Reserve Bank of Australia, Australian Prudential Regulatory Authority, Macquarie Bank and HSBC.
The program was sponsored by the Australian Government and supported by Australian Federal Treasury, China's Asia Pacific Finance and Development Centre under the auspices of the Ministry of Commerce and the Victorian Government of Australia.
