Returning to SNAI: From Student to Alumnus, and Back as a Learner

Returning to Shanghai National Accounting Institute (SNAI) was more than a journey back to China; it was a return to a place that played a significant role in my academic and professional growth.

 

From 2022 to 2024, I had the privilege of studying at SNAI and earning my Master of Professional Accounting (MPAcc). In 2024, I left SNAI as a graduate. Returning as an alumnus to participate in the seminar on “FiscalSupervisionandBudgetPerformanceManagementforDevelopingCountries”was therefore a deeply meaningful and memorable experience.

 

The seminar offered valuable insights into China’s path to modernization, national conditions, accounting oversight, taxation, fiscal reform, and performance-based budget management. More importantly, it strengthened my understanding of how effective fiscal supervision, sound accounting systems, and results-oriented budgeting can contribute to accountability, efficiency, and sustainable development.

 

One of the greatest lessons I take home is that development is not achieved by simply increasing spending, but by ensuring that public resources are properly managed, supervised, and translated into measurable results for citizens. This is particularly relevant to developing countries like Liberia.

 

What made the experience even more special was seeing how much SNAIitselfhastransformed. Having known the campus from 2022 to 2024, I could clearly see the remarkable progress from campus beautification and improved facilities to an even more conducive and welcoming learning environment. I must admit, returning after several years made me proud to see the institution continuing to grow and evolve.

 

I am equally grateful to the SNAI administration and, especially, the Center for International EducationalPrograms, for their continued commitment to international students and alumni. Their efforts to maintain relationships, communication, and mutual understanding even after students return to their home countries reflect something beyond administration reflect friendship and lastingpartnership.

 

I came to SNAI in 2022 as a student seeking knowledge. I graduated in 2024 carrying a degree and memories. I returned as an alumnus and left with new knowledge, renewed appreciation, and an even stronger connection to an institution I proudly call part of my academic journey.

 

Grateful to MOFCOM, CHINA. Grateful to SNAI. Grateful for the opportunity to return. And proud to remain an SNAI alumnus.
