The workshop on development evaluation, jointly sponsored by AFDI, CAREC institute and ADB was held in SNAI during August 15-18, attracting about 20 government officials working in the capacity of finance and planning from Afghanistan, Azerbajian, Tajikistan, China, Mongolia, Pakistan, Uzbekistan.  Dr. Peng runzhong, director of AFDI as well as deputy director at CAREC Institute , Mr. Yergali Dosmagambet gave remarks at the opening ceremony.

The workshop targeting the finance and planning officials from central Asian countries focused on the M&E fundamentals, evaluation design, data collection tools and measurement. It aimed to introduce to the government officials the latest findings in development evaluation as well as the best practices in the region, which could help to promote the idea of development evaluation as well as to build M&E capacity for the central Asian countries. Dr. Ryan Watkins from George Washington University was the lead instructor for this workshop. The experts from Shanghai Finance Bureau as well as Seoul National University also shared the evaluation experiences of both countries.
